In the beginning...

Hey hey! January 1st! Here we go!

It seems like the looming giant of 2020 remains in my house. An early trip to the emergency room, plumbing issues, general ennui.... it's been a day and we're not even halfway through. So perhaps we consider today a day of prep and rest. After all, the goal is to do something every day, not everything. A more official format to all of this will appear as weeks go on, BUT this is about celebrating the small victories. In fact, I originally typed "will appear in tomorrow's post", and realized just how restrictive and silly that was to have something burst forth, perfect and fully formed on the first try. See? Learning things already. :-)

Five Things I Can Be Happy About:
1. Set up my pills for the week, starting tomorrow.
2. Committed to joining #cardioishardio- which is a Twitter challenge for the month of January. 20 minutes of cardio, 5 days a week. It's doable and it meets a goal of mine. But this too, shall start tomorrow.
3. I've been drinking a lot of water today. 3 bottles of Arrowhead, in fact. Which is 48 ounces? That's BIG for me. I'm going to try to get another bottle in. And in consideration of the energy drink I will no doubt be pounding to make it through until tonight, I'm going to try to get a total of 6 bottles in today. Probably won't make it, but we can try.
4. In order to keep track of my daily challenges, I've made a bunch of calendars to hang up on my corkboard, focusing on 12 specific categories I'd like to focus on this year. I've got my lists written out and hung up. This doesn't sound like a lot, but writing out 365 (minus holidays) things, times 12 really takes a goodly amount of time. My right hand is weeping.
5. Took my starting weight for the year: 215.8 pounds. Not too bad for having been stress eating for the last two weeks. Had I seen that number staring back at me from the scale 10 years ago, I would have been thrown into a massive depression. But just seeing that this is within a pound (.4 of a pound in fact) of my starting weight last year of 216.2, and the whole year that we've just had? This is a very good place to start.

Finally for today, a song. Every year, I pick a theme song. Something that represents what I'd like to accomplish during the year, my hopes and dreams for the world- putting way too much importance on so small a thing. So this year, I'm just going to choose my favorite song. It sparks my imagination and inspires me to move. That's all that I'm hoping for this year- the desire to keep moving. And, having just looked up the lyrics for the first time ever, it really is perfect. I hope you enjoy.
