Day 4: Pilfering Wi-Fi

Image
Today's Cool Stuff I'm on the last legs of a degree. Literally one paper came back for revisions, and that's all that's keeping me from graduating. So today, the day it is returned for one teeny tiny revisions, of course the internet has gone down at home. Thus the early-ish post today. I sucked it up, put on my big girl pants and my big girl KN95 mask, and went to my local coffee shop (as local as a local chain be, I suppose). Covid, and especially this Omicron variant, are terrifying for me, a person who is incapable of avoiding whatever the is the sickness du jour. So sitting down in this shop for five minutes... that's big for me. So big ups to Beans and Brews, for having free wifi, a lovely place to sit, and excellent sugary coffee and rice krispie treats. If you're in Utah, give the Mr. B's a try.  Today's Accomplishments 1. Turned in my final paper 2. Cuddled some cats 3. Bought a new rice cooker that also works with quinoa. 4. Booked a housesi...

Day 3: Renacimiento Chicharrones

Image
Today's Cool Stuff When I was a kid, instead of leaving out milk and cookies, we would leave out chicharrones and bourbon, with some carrot sticks and celery for the reindeer. It's one of my favorite childhood memories, and probably the most unique family tradition we had. Chicharrones are also known as pork rinds or pork cracklins and they are experiencing a bit of a renaissance because of the keto diet. There are so many different flavors now, and they've found a way to air pop them too. They're my stressed out snack of choice. If you haven't tried them before, I'd suggest Epic's Salt and Pepper to start. Or grab some cheap-o Mission air-popped style and mix it with your own seasonings. Hope you enjoy! Today's Accomplishments 1. Took a shower. Washed my hair. Don't care, did self care. 2. Hugged some dogs- the last day for a long time! 😭 3. Held my first tutoring meeting of the year and it was wonderful to see one of my kiddos again. 4. Put in f...

Day 2: Just Keep Swimming

Image
Today's Cool Stuff This may not seems cool to you, but living in a desert really takes its toll on your sinuses. Good lord, I can't begin to tell you the number of times I thought that I was sick when I wasn't or had a terrible sinus headache that simply would not go away with ibuprofen and Tylenol. I just had messed up sinuses and I thought that I would die with them. I started adding saline nasal spray with aloe to my daily routine and what a huge quality of life difference. It's $6. Go pick some up if your allergies are flaring or your sinuses are terrorizing you. What an unbelievable difference. Let's make saline nasal spray cool.   Today's Accomplishments 1. Had a not one, but two naps. While this may be a bad sign for my health, it is a great sign for my sleepy time. 2. Hugged some dogs 3. Did some secret project brainstorming. 4. Started a lovely little silly romance book called "The Ex-Hex".  5. Got some bad news about graduating late last nigh...

Day 1: Once More Into the Breach

Image
Howdy! Happy New Year!  Alright- we're starting this challenge again. And to be honest, I haven't given it as much thought as I should have. I'm going to do a couple of things today, but really begin in earnest come Monday, I think. I just need to keep track of what I do everyday in a place that has the opportunity to make me accountable.  MY RESOLUTIONS 1. Take medicaton everyday 2. Exercise more (which won't be hard to do since this is currently at 0 minutes per week.) 3. Play at least 100 board games 4. Listen to more music 5. Read 100 books 6. Complete my graduate degree 7. Learn Italian 8. Watch 100 movies 9. Learn to Art 10. Get my secret project going and successful A checklist is going to be used to keep track of progress of the mundane things. I'm going to post more about what good things are going on in my life, things that are making me happy, things I create. We'll figure it out as we go.  Today's Cool Stuff If you haven't been introduced t...

Saturn's Return

There's something mortifying about finding an old blog. They are always perpetually filled with old goals and dreams and hopes that never came to fruition. At least, that's how it is in my case.  Saturn's Return is an astrological term for Saturn coming back to the same position it was in when you were born. With it supposedly comes maturity, wisdom, and new growth concerning life as a whole. This last year was really the death of my Saturn's Return. My 30th birthday. This spiritual growth is supposed to happen between your 27th and 29th year. But for me, that stagnation seemed to hit even harder. The Pandemic (henceforth to be known as The Pancetta) certainly hasn't helped things. I let these dreams wither and die on the virtual floor of obscurity. It's unacceptable. But I am putting a couple of long-standing goals to bed here in the next week. I think it's time I start trying at life again. But we will be gentle this time. Kind. Forgiving. Benevolent towa...

Oops!

Well, this year has turned out to be harder than I thought.  I'm going to try to start this up again come April. I turn 30 on the 25th of March so I'm a little... scared, honestly. Scared of what I'm missing out on. Scared of what's wrong with me. Scared of everything right now. Perhaps writing will help me work some of that out.  But maybe we can talk about that later. I hope y'all are doing ok, whoever you are. Until then, stay safe.

Unforeseen Circumstances

I'm going to try to properly start this New Year's Resolution thing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, or January 18th. Stuff has come up over these last couple of days that have created some large roadblocks. It's best to deal with these first, and try to start again with a clean plate. I'm ridiculously disappointed in myself, but I'm trying to be more forgiving of myself. So I guess this is something I can still work on passively. I hope however your New Year started, dear reader, it's been better than mine.
